‘Architecture for diplomacy exists, but nobody is yet walking through the door’
By Rory Challands
Reporting from Amman, Jordan
Calls for diplomacy are growing, but there is no concrete sign of progress on either the Iranian or the Lebanese fronts.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran had never asked for a ceasefire or negotiations, while Trump’s White House has rebuffed repeated efforts from Middle Eastern allies to initiate talks. Both sides are digging in.
On the Lebanese front, there is limited movement. Talks of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel are circulating, with Hezbollah’s disarmament as a key issue. France has offered to host discussions, but Lebanese parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri said there would be no talks without a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military says it will not stop its campaign against Hezbollah until the group is disarmed.
The structure for diplomacy exists — but no one is stepping into it.

President Trump still unclear on plan for his war on Iran
By John Holman
Reporting from Washington, DC
Trump continues to justify strikes by saying Iran was close to obtaining a nuclear weapon. However, there is no clear plan or timeline for eliminating that threat.
Analysts note that achieving this could require US ground forces.
